Considering my healthy lifestyle is just as important to me as it is to explore and enjoy my city, that is one of the best compliments I have ever received. But I know I’m not the only person who has been on this kind of journey — losing weight and getting healthy while not giving up everything “good” along the way — and I think it’s important to share my secret. But, spoiler alert: it’s not a secret at all.
All too often, most people shrug off a lifestyle change with, “Well I can’t give up _____.” Me either! I disagree with elimination diets in any capacity. And the word “diet” when referring to lifestyle change generally. All it takes is moderation, discipline, and mind control. For eight months of my life, I made my one cheat meal per week really count. In addition to moderating my
good bad food intake, I also quit drinking entirely for nearly six months to reset and to ultimately teach myself how to drink in moderation.
Now that I’m at the point where I’m mostly just trying to maintain, it’s gotten a little bit harder to find a good balance. I am typically pretty hardcore about what I’m consuming throughout the workweek and not so much on the weekends. Portion control (if you sing it like Prince would sing “Pussy Control,” it makes it more fun, I promise) and moderation do wonders. It’s hard, but then you don’t have to totally eliminate things from your life and diet, which is even harder. Plus it’s easier on your wallet. Win/win.
My favorite restaurant for eating locally while “dieting” is FUSIAN. They even have a nutrition calculator online, which makes it really easy to keep track of what you’re consuming. I am always looking for suggestions. Where are some of your favorite places to eat healthfully?
