Everyone I know who’s been to Spruce Natural Nail Shop has loved their experience. There’s a reason for that. Service is always pleasant, the space is relaxing, and, while it’s not the cheapest nail salon around town, I love this natural and eco-friendly nail boutique on Vine Street in OTR.

My first visit was soon after I got engaged so that my fingernails would be fresh every time someone asked to see my ring. (Be honest, ladies, I’m not alone here.) It’s not often I get manicures — in fact, it’s rare. I’d had two or three of them in my life and decided that I don’t care to pay for something I feel as though I can do myself. But I trusted Spruce enough to — ahem — spruce up my fingernails on two occasions: once for my engagement and also for my wedding.

In the number of visits that have followed, I’ve gotten The Staple pedicure, which — like the manicure — includes a soak, nail shaping, cuticle/callus care, hydrating massage, warm towel wrap, and a choice of polish or buff. I prefer making an appointment because, while they accept walk-ins, I like to know for sure I will get in and they’re known to be busy. So busy that appointments sometimes need to be made about a week in advance (or two+ weeks for multiple people or a weekend time slot).

My most recent visit was with my mom and mother-in-law, to redeem the gift cards my husband and I bought for them this past Mother’s Day. I booked our appointment for a Wednesday evening more than two weeks in advance to ensure our spots.

The customer service has always been fantastic — from the initial phone call or online booking to the care I received after I arrived. I have always been given the choice of a refreshment (water, iced tea, or coffee) when I arrive, the massages are relaxing, and I’ve always been pretty happy with my cuticle care and the artists’ paint jobs.

It’s also worth noting that the space is minimal, natural, and relaxing. Given its location, you could easily stop by for a treat mid-Vine Street shopping excursion, or even get your nails done while passing time during a long table wait for a nearby restaurant.
