I’ll go ahead and get this out of the way: Green Papaya is one of my favorite Asian restaurants around. I don’t get there as often as I’d like — partially because it’s not cheap, but also because the parking situation isn’t the best either (there’s a small lot and also street parking). Those are my biggest complaints, but they certainly aren’t big enough to deter me from going back time and time (and time) again to this Hyde Park gem.
While the entrance is different (think “butcher drapes”), the interior is actually very nice — quaint and serene. There is plenty of seating as well and, as a result, I’ve never had to wait for a table, regardless of the day of week or time of day.
The house special sauce, served with Shrimp Shumai, is incredible

Pineapple Fried Rice
In the times I’ve been to Green Papaya, I’ve gotten to try a number of dishes, including Shrimp Shumai (steamed shrimp dumplings served with their house special sauce), Mango Fried Rice, Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad Thai, TaTa Roll, and Dynasty Roll. My all-time favorite dish of theirs, however, is Salmon Teriyaki. It is outstanding and, even better, is on the lunch menu for a very reasonable price. Thinking about it, it may be one of my favorite dishes in the city. The spice levels are always great and the food is consistently fresh and delicious. The service is usually just fine, too.
I’m a huge fan of this Thai restaurant and I like to get there when I can. If you haven’t had it, go. And if you can get there for lunch, do it. It’s pretty dang reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you get.
